Tullaroan

This is the farm where my mother was born,
County Kilkenny.
There has been a farm and house here for eight generations.
Back to the early 1700s.
My ancestors.
I love coming here,
because of all the childhood memories,
and the sense of having some kind of roots...

I know how that feels; though the family farm was sold when I was still in high school, I still go back there to feel a sense of home. My place of birth, however, is Michigan, and now I've bought a summer house there I can say I'm "going home..." I just saw a hay rake like this the other day....

Yes, my mother's brother inherited the farm, he's 'retired' and now his son (my cousin)runs it.

This is very cool. There's nothing like having a place that is "home," someplace where you know you're from, someplace that calls to you. Is this the first time your kids have been here? How did they feel about the place?

Nice shot, too. I like the way the "barn" (that's what we'd call it, at least) frames the field beyond...

Your words have that warm woolly effect I get when I hear about people going back to where they come from. One day I will cross the big wide world to Cornwall, where my others are from. Yours is a beautiful picture & I know mine will be too.

That's interesting. I hope to visit a village in Devon where my ancestors came from. I've found out that the local B&B is at the farm where my family once lived and worked.
