28th July, Berry hill

These stones are the remains of an Iron Age settlement.
There is a ring of stones around the top where a wall used to be.
The two peaks in the distance both have the remains of fortifications
from about the same time.

I bought a pile of OS maps covering Angus and Perthshire yesterday. It's incredible the number of hut circles, souterrains, cairns, stone circles, standing stones, hill-forts, mottes, Roman roads, Roman signal stations, Roman forts and other antiquities there are scattered about. It must be much the same up in Aberdeenshire. These Picts certainly knew how to make their mark!
