20th July, Loco works

These are the last remaining locomotive sheds.
Steam engines used to be made here,
then later more modern ones.
The sheds won't be left there much longer.
I'm standing in the carpark of a big Tesco supermarket,
where the rest of them used to be.
Trains built here are still in use today all over the world.
Africa, East Asia, India, the 'middle' East...

other sizes: small medium original auto

The city where I live used to have character; bricks, and wood, and trees, uneven and cracked sidewalks. Now it's all glass and concrete and McDonalds, and Walmarts and parking lots and shopping malls. Soon we will have no sense of idendity or history. All the cities and towns in the Western World will resemble one another...whatever the reasons. Nice photo and something to think about.

These buildings look beautiful. Do you know if they still exist? Are there any plans to demolish them?

I'm glad you got this. I hate to see places like this dissapear, too many don't know what went before. We lose our history everytime we blink. And to think there are engines from here still in use around the world. Soon all that will be left are pictures.

I hope you took plenty.

I just deleted my post-industrial gallery, which had pictures of Dundee docks, which have suffered much the same fate. Yes, we used to power an Empire... now we can barely scrape together a decent football team. Very sad.

They are the Inverurie Loco Works, Aberdeenshire. All that remains is the Loco Works football team, (Highland League)

Love the blue doors ... sometimes I just hate progress.

Glad you caught this before the fateful day. Were these the North British works? Where are they?
