The Kangra valley is one of the most picturesque valleys of the lower Himalyas. The valley, sheltered by the sublime Dhauladhar range, is green and luxuriant. It provides a tremendous contrast in nature of locals. Dharamshala is full of Buddhist air whereas ancient Hindu Temples like Brajeshwari, Baijnath, Jawalamukhi and Chamunda Devi dot the country side.

The history of Kangra valley dates back to the Vedic times more than 3500 years ago. The area was exposed to successive invasions, the last being the British domination over the princes of the hill states. Despite the onslaughts and political upheavels, the arts and crafts of the region continued to develop and found lyrical expressions. Crafts like the exquisitely designed shawls and miniature paintings of this region are internationally appreciated.

Himachal kangra ki tarha khoobsurat wo meri jindgi aaj maana ki mujhe chod kar jaa chuki hai magar aaj bhi wo mere is dil mai meri aatms mai aaj bhi usi ki khushbu mere jehan mai basi hui hai mujhe uski bahut yaad aati hai or usay yaad karke meri aankhe or mera mann dono hi aansuo se bhig jaate hai.kiu chali gyai tum mujhe chod ke i miss u lot

Gita Ram's Chai/pakora shop was the first village I walked through one glorious morning when I was walking from Dharamsala to Kangra village. As you see in the header of this gallery which is the view looking from his shop back through the village the way I had come.

Ashwani... ji, HImachal is great. Glad you enjoyed snaps. I remember Kotla well and there are several snaps here from there. I stayed just above Dharmasalla and everyday I would walk in a different direction and come back by bus in the evening. One day I passed through Kotla. I remember climbing up the hill to a small temple and old fort and in the fort were two people playing clarinet (actually a lesson). A great day in Kangra!

These photos were taken during 1978. To my surprise, there are some rare photographs of my sweet village Kotla. my age at that time will be arount 4 yrs. It was really a emotional moment to see these old pictures as this stage when the scenario is totally changed. Thanks. I love Himachal.

ye kangda velly jindgi hai abhi se nahi balki yaha se mera rishta pichle kaee janmo se hai esa mujhe mehsus hi nahi balki yakin hai gar esa na hota to mujhe mera pyaar gogdi ke roop mai is janam mai kaise milta jo ki yahi kangda ki rehne waali hai mai aaj jeena bhi or marna bhi sirf uske saath hi cahta hu meri liye agar kuch khusi hai to wo gogdi ka saath hai saari umar ke liye wo bilkul kangda velly ki tarha khubsurat hai us se bhi jyada uski aatma bilkul velly ki subha ke taaza us ki bundo se lipte huay sundarta ki tarha hai gar wo mujhe na mili to mere marne ke baad meri rooh in kaanga velly mai hi kayamat tak uske pyar ko paane ke liye uska intjaar karti rahegi. aaj mai tumhe bahut miss kar raha hu gogdi jee i love u .....anand srajan

Mr. Paul, I am not sure what you mean by 'the filthyness' in your comment. When I was there in 1978 I was young and it was the first time I had been in India. I didn't really know anything about the area. I was told when I get to Amritsar, from Pakistan, to take a bus to Dharamsala-that it was a beautiful place. I knew I liked Kanga miniture paintings. I spent my days walking in Kangra Valley and drinking chai and eating pakoras with local 'simple' people. It is one of the most beautiful sweet places I had ever been. I thought my snaps reflected the simple beauty of Kangra. Sorry if you don't like them, you are the first. I look at them with the fondest of memories!

Mr. Khan I suppose you have already left out some beautiful place such as Mc Leodgunj, His Holiness Dalai Lama's Temple,Bhagsunath temple, Waterfall, Education Board, FM Radio Staion, T.V. Tower Staion & Cheedh Gari, a beautiful place in Dharamshala. I'm Surprised to see your post as what you wish to discribe about Kangra Valley, its beauty or some kind of ugliness. Such as Cottages, Gita Ram's Tea Stall( I think, I hardly found any name such as Gita Ram, may be you have mistaken by Sita Ram). Try of post some good work and not the filthyness. New Delhi
