This really is an arresting image - reminds me of the the famous portrait of the Afghani girl from National Geographic - you know, the one with the electric green eyes. (Incidentally, they tracked that girl down about 10 years ago to a refugee camp outside of Peshawar, where she is a haggard housewife now.)
