NONSUCH 30 KC 1 / 2 1978

.

Arthur wrote Feb 2007 :

These are photos of the original NONSUCH. She gave her name to all her sisters of the various models and variations of this type of catboat.

NONSUCH was the boat design Gordon Fisher conceived and created, had Ellis draw, and then commissioned. He had her built, somewhat reluctantly by George Hinterhoeller, who went on to build almost 1000 variations in various lengths from 22 feet to 36 feet.

Gordon flew large Royal Canadian Yacht Club burgees on both sides of one of her sails. He was also fond of a traditionally classic tanbark sail she had.

The first 4 Nonsuch boats built were NONSUCH, ELEPHANT, THE WHITE CAT, & BRUTAL BEAST. They were all custom finished below decks and all fairly different from one another. They are neither Classics or Ultras, just 30s.

The interior of each 30 Classic, 30C , was patterned after the layout aboard NONSUCH . . . minus the fireplace.

As to whence came her name, see the second vessel listed in . . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Nonsuch . . . and . . . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonsuch_%28ship%29 One can also visit the NONSUCHery Gallery to see more about her historic namesake.
