In late March and early April of 2010 I traveled to Chengdu, Sichuan Province, PRC,
as a guest of the Institute of Mountain Hazards & Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
My trip was arranged and facilitated by my good friend Dr. Kevin M. Scott, who was employed there by
CAS as Senior International Scientist for 2009-2010.
We accompanied scientists from IMHE to Kunming, Yunnan, then to the town of Dongchuan
and the Institute's reseach station in the Wumeng Mountains at Jiangjia Gou,
the renowned site of frequent large debris flows.
The group was led by Professor Kang Zhicheng and Dr. Ge Yong Gang.
It was my privilege to conduct extensive photography for them in this remarkable area,
as well as in Dongchuan, Kunming, and Chengdu.
I offer my profound thanks to the scientists, staff, and students of IMHE in Chengdu.
My visit would not have been possible without their kindness, assistance, and hospitality.
