COOL AMERICANI really like Doritos, but here in Iceland they are rather expensive. Even so, there was no way I could pass up a chance to get a bag of Cool Americans.
Iīll have to do some asking to find out why they donīt have Ranch. |
Wall mural from the Kringlan mall. |
Spiderman. I just missed this little kid climbing up on one of the brick street barriers, too. |
Would you believe that pink, red, and white are fairly popular boot and shoe colors? |
Kids all over love RC cars, I guess. |
Take a close look, and you will see the letters WC.
This thing is actually a bathroom downtown.
WC stands for Water Closet, by the way. |
Some of the pictures I take are just corny. |
 I love these exit signs.
When you leave someplace, it needs to be in a hurry! |
Hey...wanna be a Rock Bitch when you grow up? |
I took this picture because of the sheer number of beach and sand toys.
Thatīs a lot of shovels, especially for this rock called Iceland.
I thought there may have been that many in the entire country, but one store?!? |
Nice place to take a date. |
Typical day at the Smaralind mall. |
Structure just outside the equivalent of a City Hall building. |
 Reykjavik Graffiti. |
Size comparison for the wall. |
 Street vendors start young here.
Actually, in addition to their own stuff, they were selling some surplus that had next to no value for one of the downtown stores. |
 |
Tiger stores. These are equivalent to our All A Dollar stores.
As you can see in Iceland, though, everything is 200 or 400 kronur.
That is roughly equal to all $3 or $6.
We do a lot of shopping at these stores. |
Do it and like it! |
 hehe. Wanna Balloner? |
This is some handmade soap. |
Fountain outside of one of the downtown shops. |
This is how you tell if a girl is Icelandic....
Hair wind blown? (optional) Check
Multiple earrings? Check
Scarf? Check
Headphones? (optional) Check
Wearing multiple print t-shirts? Check
Funky gloves? Check
Oversized fabric purse? Check
Skirt/Dress in drab colors? Check
Nifty stockings? Check
Skater shoes? Check
But probably the most important...Does she look like she just stepped out of a 1980s music video on MTV?!?!
|
This little bastard will set you back almost $2000 U.S. |
I was just happy to see him. |
 |
We saw the Pope on this day. |
 |
This is one of the cash register counters at 66 Degrees North.
|
 Another counter. |
While walking through the Smaralind mall one day, Heather and I just kind of walked into a food convention.
We were able to get all kinds of samples from the vendors.
Cheese Days is what it was actually called.
I didnīt care what it was called, because this was the first time in about 6 weeks that I had even seen real cheddar cheese, let alone eat some. |
 |
This is some stuff that I was not real sure about trying, but I did anwyay.
It was actually a really sweet type of cheese product. |
 |
 |
This Pizza Hut in the mall kind of blows away the American theory of them always having to have the red roof over a store. |
Out of focus, but apparently land is for sale in Iceland. |
This was posted on one of the bulletin boards at the University.
It caught my eye because of how we use "guru" in English.
Translated, this asks "Are you computer-guru?" |
 Icelanders take their coffee-drinking seriously.
I havenīt been able to sneak too many action pictures involving coffee, but here you can see that they will even bring a thermos to class. |
One of the few luxuries I donīt go without here in Iceland, even it is cost prohibitive.
There are no discounts on multi-pack items, even 6 or 12 packs of beer, so it costs the same per bottle of coke if I get 1 or 18.
This "18 pack" sets me back just over $22 U.S. Dammit!
The cost has definitely helped to lower my overall consumption, though. |
 Baby On Board.
Even coming all the way over to Iceland, I canīt escape these damn signs. |
One of the statues I like.
I pass by it every time I go downtown. |
 Football anyone? |
 Yep, even here. |
I had to have Zach pretend I was getting a picture of him.
The thing I actually wanted to show with this is the stroller.
It is very common to see baby strollers just sitting outside a store.
There is not much to worry about, I guess. |
 Hello. |
This is how advertising is done for a lot of local events. |
 WTF?! |
One of the locals....not very princess-like, I would say. |
 Holy Shit!
I finally found a store that sells cheddar cheese.
However, my excitement was very short lived.
The price for cheddar is 3692 kronur per kilogram.
That, my friends, is over $50 U.S. (yes, fifty) per kilo!
Notice the calculator in the background to help you figure out how many days
you are going to have to work to afford to make yourself a grilled cheese sandwich. |
I asked this guy if he knew that his shirt was the reason why he wasnīt getting the chicks.
This was his response. |
Some of the common names in Iceland. |
What do you think of this, Bobbi?
You better leave a comment! |
View from my dorm at about 5:30 in the afternoon. |
 |
I was playing around with my camera.
This shot actually turned out a lot better than I thought it would. |
The reason the Red Sox have made it to the World Series. |
Me on the city bus. |
One day in the mall, I came upon a pretty interesting thing.
You can sign up to give a 10 minute speech on anything you want to talk about. |

Some real-life advertising at one of the bus stops. |
 |
 Icecream is....crap? |

South Beach Diet....yep, even here. |
This is the bathroom at the Hlemmur bus station here in Reykjavik.
When I first walked in, I thought I had entered a parallel
universe where I was going into the bathroom of some club. |

Kind of a cool-looking moon this night. |

Sláter. Wow. This was a very interesting dinner.
Sheepīs insides boiled up in the stomach.
The darker one is blood pudding.
I at least tried them, but no, I did not have more than one bite. |
 Sheepīs head.
I tried this, as well, but I think I had a bad piece.
I had the lower lip...and maybe some of the eyeball. |

The table set and waiting for us. |

The moon from just outside of my dorm. |

Kind of nifty.
I just moved a little bit to get the trees that were lit up by a streetlight. |
 |

Found in a bathroom stall. |

How many American Flags can you count?
This was taken during "American Days" at one of the grocery stores. |
 |
 |
 |

Bubble strollers....vital for the weather here. |
Kind of difficult to read, but the one-word epitaph
really struck me...especially since he was 70 or 71. |

As you can see, there are a variety of things that you can do in Iceland with a tour group.
One thing that I was not aware of, however, was dog sledging.
I used to just think that was Koreaīs foothold on a main ingredient for take-out. |

Good luck getting any U.S. Postal worker to deliver here! |

Beep! |

Hard-core Soccer, er football players.
They even wear shorts, theyīre so cool. |

Another action shot. Notice Gamli Garður in the background? |
This was a pretty funny scene...as soon as the two girls closer to me noticed I was taking a
picture, they tried their hardest to shake the other girl off of this while laughing hysterically. |

This obviously shows a soccer ball on top of the frozen lake,
but it also shows how long Zachīs shadow is.
This picture was taken at 12:30, and the sun is just barely over the horizon. |

Nifty statues. |

Christams decorations have been up since just before Halloween. |

A shot taken on the main shopping street downtown.
Notice how the billboard is right in mid-change. |
 |

Pretty cool handmade bulldozer.
This doesnīt really show the scale of it, but if you look at the floor
those tiles are about 12 inches each.
This was a very heavy "toy" that would cost right at $450 (four-hundred and fifty!). |

Well, we know what the bride thinks of marriage! |
Here is a very unassuming building that is actually the jail.
Notice the surveillance cameras? |

Other than the cameras, this barbed wire
is about the only indication this is the jail. |

Looking forward to being home at Christmas! |

WTF!?! |

Messing around with the statues. |

Some colorful buildings viewed from the top of the Hallgrimskirkja Church. |

A little snow wonīt deter this guy. |

Nifty sign.
Notice the advertisement for Elf? |

Getting a little close! |
The organ at the Hallgrimskirkja Church.
Check out Zach in the mirror. |
A view of the Perlan from my window when it snows. |
Apparently this person has been walking for a while. |
I like the Discreet Service portion of this.
I actually went over to try the door, and a guy who had been watching
me take some pictures laughed and said that it was his joke.
He lives just above this section of the building.
