The Great Wall joins the Bohai Sea a few kilometers Northeast of Qinhuangdao at Shanhaiguan. Also known as the "First Pass Under Heaven." This was one of the main gates, or passes, in the Great Wall. Part of the interior of this walled city has been rebuilt. While the new part is rather sterile, it does give you an idea of what it must have looked like long ago. But just a few meters off the main street of the new area one can find areas that have been evolving at their own rates for centuries.
