This was a memorable evening, as with all previous "last mettings of the season" with our Bergen County Chapter. The torch was past from our current esteemed Prez, Lorenzo (Larry) Vanore to the outgoing VP, Charles (Chuck) Lota for the 2012-2013 Season. Once again, from both, the outgoing and acceptance speeches were clearly emeotional and heartfelt, showing to all in attendance--including the Scholarship recipient students--the bond that this Chapter, in particular, has with each other. Chuck reinforced the concept that we ARE FAMILY! His wife and one of his daughters, his childhood friend from age 7, and Henry (Hank) Fuentes--his first(?) accounting teacher AND his mentor were all in attendance to witness the torch-passing to him. While Chuck voice clearly cracked from held-back emotion, Hank kept sobbing and wiping his own tears away, as he listened to Chuck's account of startng his accounting education with Hank at Fairleigh Dickinson University. 10 students received a total $37,500.00 in scholarships. $5,000 of that amount was donated by the sponsor of the night, the management staff of the Mariner's Bank. The remainder was attributed to the success of the seminars' attendance throughout the season. Robert Prine from the bank assisted Scholarship Committee Chair Coleman Szely in handing out the awards to the students.
