SHELL

Jostled, tossed by wave after wave,
broken, crushed, shattered, scattered.

A million exo-skeletal shards
hurled by wind and ocean surge
again and again onto the shore,
stranded above the high tide line.

Then, on the slowest of slow journeys of becoming,
pulverized by passing weather
bleached by sun and rain,
becoming one.
Ocean of sand.

All part of the sand transformation process. A certain kind of sand. Well composed.

How many once-living creatures these shell remains must correspond to.

the subtle veins of colour enliven the monochrome mosaic...that will certainly be sharp sand for a while yet..
