Perhaps my favorite northwest US native tree - an evergreen. Called Madrone in S. Oregon and California, and Arbutus in Canada.

Madrona has striking bark; I see why is it your favourite. This doesn't look at all wintery! Is it growing by and over a stream or wetland?
