the staircase is called that because, well, the river drops over a series of small falls that look like a 'staircase'. except that this one is composed of ragged rough boulders and rock that would take an agile giant to maneuver. i didn't get any good shots of the staircase itself what with low light, branches, and steep overgrown riverbanks to the river.
