The MKT is Columbia's premiere trail. This 10-foot wide trail is built on the old railbed of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad, which was built in the 1870s and was affectionately known as "the Katy."

Today, the MKT trail spur connects Columbia to the Katy Trail State Park, the longest rails-to-trails conversion project in the United States.
