Dandilions are a common subject, and appear regularly in my front yard,
and I have been trying to get a shot of one I liked for two years.
Using the 5700/8700 in macro mode produced technically accurate images that
had no "soul." Part of my aim was to make surrounding fence, mailbox,
bird feeder, grass and power lines go away. That led to the idea of
shooting "from below." This still did not produce enough drama in the shot.
Then a friend suggested using a very wide lens and stopping the camera
down to exaggerate perspective. I shot it with the camera on the ground
and touching the base of the flower at f8, with exposure compensation
set negative to keep the bloom itself from blowing out. This gives huge
depth of field, so the entire flower is in focus, and the shooting
angle and lens FOV maximize the perspective. The result is the 90 mile high
flower.
