OUR FRIEND TAWNEY

Tawney came into our lives 12 1/2 years ago, kind of by accident. We were going to one store, but stopped at one closer. Some people were giving away puppies, they had a litter of 10, and there were 2 left, a boy and a girl. They were shepherd/collie mix. We stopped, I said that we would take both, but we needed to go inside of the store. Donna looked at me like I was crazy, both !!
When we came out of the store, only Tawney was left. We took her home and she shared her love with us.

Over the years, she has protected us and our grandchildren - the little girls especially. She has run away a few times earlier in life. One time when Bachi was chasing her, Bachi gave up, telling her if she did not think she had a good home, then leave. (Now we know dogs don't understand what we say - or do they) Donna turned around and began walking back to the house. Tawney was right behind her.

If it seems as though there are more photos of Tawney and Beth, Beth thought of her as her "sister"
and it was mutual.

She did not like staying in the kennel when we left on vacations, she did not think she was a dog and have to be put with "dogs".

When Bachi's parents called asking her to come up to north Texas to help them out because of medical reasons, Tawney became my protector.

As a puppy, she would get carsick just going around the block. As she grew older, the only trips she made were the yearly doctors visits and shots. We did bring her riding around town a few times, and out walking. Now Bachi was an 8 hour drive away. OK, let's go. She was a real trooper. At first we met half way staying overnight in a motel, I worked for the LaQuinta chain a long time ago, and I knew they accepted pets. Tawney loved the attention bestowed on her by the other guests.

Eventually we made a decision that when I retired, Tawney and I would join Bachi in north Texas. Coming up every weekend was hard, but we did it, taking some of our things each week. Sometimes I put her in the kennel so that I could bring more, but really felt bad when I picked her up on Monday.

Cutting her story short, she went from being a city dog, to a north Texas rural dog. We live on 10 acres, of which about one full acre is fenced in. She has much more room to run around, though she stopped running earlier this year. She adapted well to north Texas, EXCEPT for snow. Tawney hates snow !!!

Tawney left us this morning. She leaved behind two very sad owners. We knew this day was coming, but as with any parting, we really did not want to face it.

REST IN PEACE TAWNEY WE LOVE YOU

(Thanks for letting us share her story and our grief. Some of these photos may already be posted to the family gallery)
