Red Admiral is deep black, ornamented with red and white spots. It shows a wingspan of 55 to 65 mm.
It lives in temperate parts of Europe, Asia and North America, but also in North Africa and New Zealand. It is migratory in northern areas of its range, but adults may survive in winter in southern regions.
They get nectar from Buddleias in gardens, and from Ivy’s flowers and rotten fruits.
They are widespread and live mainly in wet areas.
Female lays one single egg on the tip of young nettles.
