GREEN-HAIRSTREAK - CALLOPHRYS RUBI - ARGUS VERT

Green Hairstreak is a medium-sized butterfly which keeps its wings closed except when flying. Both sexes are similar, but male has small pale spots on forewings. They have a wingspan of 27 to 34 mm.

Males are aggressive to defend their territories, performing spiralling flights above shrubs.

This species lives in varied habitats, and it is associated with scrubs and shrubs, necessary for breeding. It is found in Europe, North Africa, and Asia to Siberia.

Female lays single eggs on leaf tips or flower buds of various foodplants. They hatch at about one week.
