I got a few strange looks and at one point a well-meaning middle-aged couple pulled over to ask if I was okay.
I politely assured them that I was fine and we continued down our respective paths.

Yes, I was okay. I was a single woman alone in the desert, walking in the opposite direction that everyone else was driving.
I was better than okay.
