20 March - A racing car

At Snetterton Race Track today....but I'm not sure what sort ;o) I was chatting to an "official" photographer over the fence & he told me his settings for his panning shots, so I had a
go! Quite pleased the car is sharp & the background motion blurred although I think it's a pretty
boring & static picture! This is out of camera, simply sharpened!

I think it's a good result anyway; panning motion shots are not easy to pull off. But I'm reminded of the movie "The Aviator"; Howard Hughes realised that the reason that the aircraft in his film looked so slow is that there were no clouds in the background to contrast the motion against. It's a bit the same here; yes there IS background, but with the exception of the lone tree in the distance it's all flat. Had there been other "3D" objects (say, hay bales or whatever) closer to the track it probably would have accentuated the sense of motion. Hmm, I must test that theory myself...

Cool, good advice from the photographer, I bet he couldn't do a portrait as well as you have done this.
