Arches National Park was and is formed as it is because 300 million years ago an ocean dried up leaving behind a mile thick layer of salt...and upon that, time and nature laid down another mile of rock which is, naturally enough, heavier than salt and deforms the salt, in fact deforms the very earth itself below in creative and magical ways.
