FORBIDDEN CITY
Almost 600 years ago the Ming Dynasty Emperor Yongle
began construction on an imperial palace in Beijing.
The project occupied some 200,000 workers for about 14 years.
The palace's buildings contain over 8700 rooms and halls.
Because of the exclusiveness that was maintained
behind the moat and walls of the palace,
with time it became know as the Forbidden City.
Today the Forbidden City palace complex
is the single most popular attraction in China.
