During summertime 1966, I frequently joined my friends into their trips out of Hue city to the remote areas where the VC guerrillas took control during night time. We spotted one large sign with the communist propaganda "Turn your weapon back against American to salvage the country" and found it was so "funny" to have a snapshot with it.
When I got the film developed and my mother saw the print, she instructed me to cut the slogan off due to safety since it may be a proof of our family relationship to the enemy. Of course I must obey her, but I save this portion of the photograph, telling myself when I become an adult, I will go into the guerrillas' territory again to understand why brothers in a same nation can kill each other.
In deed, I don't have to wait too long. 7 years later, I was able to make my 2nd trip and sat down to talk to people from the other side of the front.
