Ring-necked Pheasant

Though they are one of the most beautiful birds out there, I lament in seeing them. Most of the pheasants we see are raised on farms and released into the wild just so some white-trash cowards can hunt them. They are often quite approachable and reluctant to fly for long distances. They have been introduced here from Asia. Approximately 10 million are raised on "Pheasant Farms" in the US, just to be slaughtered. Some sport.

I agree. Beautiful birds, too bad they are raised for "sport." We used to have them where I grew up outside Detroit. I'd startle them some winter days as I was walking to the bus stop. I don't know who was more unnerved: them by me walking past, or me when they let out that very loud, two-note shriek. :-)

Pheasants are beautiful, as is this shot. We had wild pheasants that scampered through our back yard in Massachusetts. I didn't realize that they are farmed now.

Nice shot Bob, and I agree with you.
