Shark River Inlet. I was very excited to see this rare (for NJ) alcid, after several winters looking for auks and other seabirds there. I believe this is only the 14th record for this bird in NJ since 1929. These birds breed in the northern coast of Canada, including Hudson Bay and James Bay, to Atlantic coast of Quebec and maritime provinces, south to Maine. Also found throughout the Arctic, Greenland, Iceland, northern Europe, and Russia.
