The desert wind sings a sad lonesome song
on the long dusty trail before me.
The cattle mewing as the day settles to dusk
the only sounds drifting 'round me.
Gives one time to ponder life in full
as a lone tear slips quietly down.
Disappearing in the dust below
blending with those that have long dried.
The prairie speaks of past lives,
lost loves and broken hearts.
Many stories can still be heard
as a breath drifts softly by, speaking of long ago.

When I've reached the end
of that long dusty trail,
don't shed me no tears.
I've lived life my way,
have loved and been loved
The greatest riches I know.
I've roamed the dirt 'neath my feet
the mountains above my head.
And like the birds in the tree
I'll soon be set free
Knowing He's waiting there for me.

My course was set many years before
When life was simple and life was complicated.
And then Life just was.
When I reach the end of my long dusty trail
I'll fear not again nor hurt no longer more.
My soul to set free, soaring above them old trees
And for the rest of eternity, I'll be only Yours.
