Theodore Roosevelt's Statement.

Check the dates Posted on the window. One hundred years after this statement.
I think that T.R.'s statement is too harsh. I left New York for Kansas 41 years ago and to me, Kansas was a foreign country back then. While I'm comfortable here I have strong feelings for New York.

Though I have adopted this country and have been a citizen since 1973, I will never forget my roots, my native culture and language. We are all immigrants!

What an interesting post, especially in light of todays Supreme Court ruling on DACA. There we have almost a million people who were brought here illegally as children. By most accounts they have assimilated as per TR's instructions, but our current president wants to get rid of them just the same. I for one am glad SCOTUS came down on the right side of history on this one. I also think that overall TR was a pretty good president and WAY better than what we have now.

Yes some parts are true, other not so. I cannot forget my roots and I shall not. But I adapted with joy to the new country. But it’s like in the Neil Diamond song “ I am I said”. Watched Ken Burns’s documentary about the Roosevelts. They were both great statesmen. And yes they are from Dutch descent. Makes me very proud.

I am going to agree with TR. Moving from NY to KS isn’t quite the same except the people in Kansas thought you talked funny! and you were already an American thus accepted. If someone comes here from far away for whatever reason they are not required to dump their culture but only to incorporate ours with theirs. To assimilate with the existing to become part of us! The only way the Melting Pot works is if everyone adds an ingredient! It splashes around and is messy sometimes but it works! Everyone bitches about (fill in the blank) in the US and how awful it is. if that is true why do they come here? I know! Lets ask the man on the street in Caracas or Mogadishu or a hundred other cities across the globe. I know enough people who came here from overseas. They would agree with TR too! They were so excited to be here and most of them renounced their duel citizenship when they became Americans. My life has been enriched by these people!

Nice posting and interesting view and the paper has held up nicely after all those years with the sun beating on it. I left New York 1958 and never looked back only visit when the wife want to see a show in Manhattan Nice find for conversation. Vote
