Portrait by Yousuf Karsh of Ottawa

I have looked at portraits by Yousuf Karsch since the mid 40's and I think he is the best portrait photographer of all times. If you google him you'll get some idea of him.

Such an unusual portrait setting and I love it. Great use of lighting to outline her face. Such a master.

A few years back there was an exhibition of Karsh's work at the Art Gallery of Alberta. It was phenomenal. Besides having his work, they also reconstructed his studio/dark room with his actual equipment in it. Most of which he built himself. No Photoshop for him. In the photo book "Karsh Portraits" by the University of Toronto Press (1979) the write-up about Georgia is interesting. V

Wow ! this certainly is a stunning portrait - made me think of the old Dutch painters, N. American style :) I'm not familiar with Karsch, but will be checking him out. You sure got a good copy. V
