Carl Sandburg was known as the "Poet of the People". He lived his final years in this house, which was originally called "Rock Hill" by the original owner, C. G. Memminger, who built it as a second home to escape the summer heat in Charleston, South Carolina. Mr. Memminger served as Secretary of the Confederate Treasury from 1861-1864.
