An Eastern Timber Rattlesnake, at the Western North Carolina Nature Center, Asheville, NC. This species of snake is extremely venomous and highly dangerous to people and pets. The snake in this image is about 4-feet long. Last week, while hiking in the Avery Creek area of DuPont State Forest, our group came upon an Eastern Timber Rattler that was even larger.
