HISTORIC GRAVES

The graves of Christopher and Mary Memminger. Christopher Memminger served as the First Secretary of the Treasury (1861-1864) and a staff member of Jefforson Davis' Cabinet, Confederate States of America. Mr. Memminger was born in Germany, in 1803. He died in 1888.

The graves are in the St. John In The Wilderness Church cemetery. The church, located near Hendersonville, North Carolina, was built in 1834.

I happened to pass by the graves at an opportune moment, just as a sun ray illuminated the Confederate Flag on Mr. Memminger's grave. "Dynamic B&W" film mode. 35mm focal length equivalent of 60mm.
