Cordoba, Spain - The Great Mosque

La Mezquita - The world's second largest mosque built in the 8th century with a Cathedral placed in it's center like a huge spider in it's web. The main sight in Cordoba is undoubtedly the Great Mosque. One of the unsurpassed masterpieces of world architecture. The entire city is a jewel in Andalucía's crown. Emperor Carlos V overrode the wishes of Cordoba's mayor by authorizing the cathedral's construction in the 16th century, although he deeply regretted his decision when he saw the completed travesty.(Penguin Random House)

Great capture of this mosque, and interesting to read that there's a cathedral built in its center. There must be some fascinating history surrounding that! V.

a grand building...there must be a good story regarding why there is a cathedral in it too...perhaps that dates from the re-conquest of Spain...fine shot to show it's impressive location..
