The pellet can be seen in its mouth and is about to be spit up, hence it's unusual bent over pose. Owl pellets are little packages of bones, fur and many other indigestible matter that are regurgitated (spit up) after the Owl has completely digested several meals. They swallow their prey whole (they have no teeth) without chewing or tearing the flesh apart. All indigestible matter is collected in it's digestive system. It's gizzard operates like a trash compactor, pressing all the bones, fur, feathers or any other matter that cannot be digested, into a firm oval ball. When the pellet reaches a certain size the Owl spits it up and it drops to the ground. Pellets are commonly found on the ground, usually under trees where they tend to roost....
