Tasunke Oyate. Horse Nation.
Imagine what the old ones (our Indian Ancestors) thought when the spanish speaking people first brought horses to this land! Their only reference was the dog (Sunka). The horse's size and grace brought our people to call them "Sunka Wakan", "Holy Dog'. Tasunkepi were revered for their ability to carry our hunters swiftly to the food, to move villages, and to bring our warriors into and from battle.
These are not the usual 'horse and owner' photographs, rather they are the way we see our special friends.
