Seamill to Portencross v Hunterston Ayrshire Scotland - Mar '08.
The Ayr Campus Walkers were out again on Sunday 30th Mar 2008.
We made our way along the top of the beach with wonderful views across to Arran and the Firth of Clyde. Following a well used path that skirts the side of the golf course. At the end of the path we turned right and within a short distance turn left for Thirdpart Smallholdings, this is part of the national cycleway and it took us into pastoral farmland. Upon reaching the entrance road to Hunterston Power Station we turn left and follow this route right past the station and beyond to the impressive cliff face called the Three Sisters. By following a rough coastal path this leads us to Portencross Castle, which was a good spot to stop and have a picnic. The historic castle & port is reputed to have been the last mainland resting place for the bodies of Scottish Kings before they were ferried to Iona for burial. The rest of the walk is along the coast back to the starting point.
The weather was poor for the first two to three hours so most of my photographs were taken towards the end of the walk.
Someone has been photoshopping out scaffolding....!
Loved the shots Ian - but what was in your hip flask towards the end - a distinct list to port methinks... more a case of "Ian on the Slide"... You will of course tell us it was deliberate, but we know better.... And I see you have a "Kenny nae pals" photo.
You can almost smell the sea air looking at these. Thanks for sharing!
