Trip to Canadian Arctic & Greenland. Iqaluit To Resolute. Jul – Aug ’06.

This trip was aboard the immaculate Akademik Ioffie. A Russian research vessel carrying 100 passengers. We set sail from Iqaluit on Baffin Island and proceeded down to Monumental Island for our first look at polar bears. We then proceeded to cross the Davis Strait to Greenland. Visited the towns of Aasiaat, Ilulissat and Uummannaq before venturing back across the Davis Strait (two day voyage) to the Cape Hay bird cliffs on Bylot Island. Following this we visited Devon Island and the Croker Bay glacier. Dundas Harbour where we came face to face with walrus was our next port of call. Beechey Island then provided us with an insight into the ill-fated Franklin Expedition. Time then only permitted a look at Prince Leopold Island before completing our cruise at Resolute on Aug 4th.
