On top of this Monument you can see 3 figures - Glory at the center
is crowning Genius and Valour.
On the sides of the Arch reclined are the River Tejo (Lisbon river)
and the River Douro (Oporto river).
Standind above the coluns the statues of four eminent persons of different
times in History - Viriato stood against roman invasion - D.Nuno Alvares
Pereira defeated the spanish in XIV cent. Vasco da Gama discovered the sea
route to India in 1498 and Maquis of Pombal rebuilt Lisbon after the great
1755 earthquake.
