Yellow Barred Tiger Salamander DSC4708

Fort Myers, Florida

The yellow barred tiger salamander is native to southwestern Canada through the western United States to Texas and northern Mexico. They will eat anything they can catch, including various insects, slugs, and earthworms. The juveniles have external gills and live in water, but the adults are primarily terrestrial. Their scientific name is ambystoma mavortium.
