The Versailles Chateau was originally a hunting lodge in the countryside outside Paris, but is was enlarged into an opulent chateau for Louis XIII. Louis XIV declared it to be the seat of government and official residence of the Court. The Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon behind the chateau were built in later years. Marie Antoinette lived in the Petit Trianon and had the hamlet built behind it.
