The soffits make an eight-sided polygon out of the ceiling. This long skinny ceiling area defines the kitchen side of the room. The new kitchen will have a long counter where the counter and stove are, on the left in this pic. There will not be a counter next to the fridge. The 18" wide pantry will go there, floor to ceiling. Jim will build out the soffits to come to the front edge of the pantry. There will be a deep cupboard above the fridge, and a soffit built out above it.
