Elephant Rescue

A young male elephant, around 5 years old had its leg caught in a snare, likely in Kruger National Park. The snare was so tight around the ankle that over a period of time, likely the foot would be become gangrenous and the elephant would die. I was invited to watch and help (a bit) with aid. A vet from Kruger was called in, darted the animal and we were allowed to go and see the rest. We had to push the elephant to its side. I was allowed to touch him and I must say it was not what I expected. The feel was leathery with stiff bristles of hair. The snare was removed and a salve was applied to assist in healing. The elephant was then given an antidote and he got up and from what I have heard he is doing well.

The photos are technically not very good, but it will give you some idea as to what transpired.
