This afternoon neighbors of mine found a turtle in their back yard. As near as I can tell from searching it was a red-bellied turtle, but there isn't much to be found. It also had yellow markings in addition to the bright red, both colors visible below the blackish shell and on both sides of the tail. It had two ovals on either side of a long neck--a yellow one below a pale green one. 8-10" long (I'd say medium size.) The head and neck were paler in color than the tail. They transferred it to the bank of a stream near a manmade pond and it seemed happy to be there. Somebody else suggested it might be a snapping turtle, but it didn't seem aggressive at all. Any ideas?

Found one in our back yard this evening on the top of a dirt mound. We're located between a large pond and a marshy area in Mullica Hill, NJ It was about 12-13" long

I found one of these on my driveway this morning and I can't find much information about these turtles. I live in Ocean County, NJ.
