No, the flash is automatic. It's just that the flash flashes for roughtly a 10000th of a second, very short compared to the shutter speed.

thanx for the answer :-) I must admit that I dont really understand how to change flash settings so far. Does "the flash itself being 1/10000" means that your flash is set to give the maximum light possible ?

Well, when all the light's from the flash, the 1/180 is fairly irrelevant, the flash itself being 1/10000 or so. (1/180 is in fact the D100's maximum flash sync speed). I am shooting from fairly close, and probably at ISO 400, but maybe 200 (funny that that doesn't show up in the EXIF). The f/8 is partly for depth of field and partly so I can shoot close without worrying about the flash overexposing.

Could you please tell me how you shoot coz I am learning and it seems to me that 1/180s f/8.0 would make very dark pictures, even with flash no ? What iso do you use ? Thanx for your time.
