but they used to live here."
That's what we knew as kids
when we saw the yellow flowers.

Some places they made perfect squared lines
around the space that showed no other sign
of the wooden structure that had kept the people
from the cold and rain and scorching sun.

Now I have yellow blossoms
to show when children climb the hill to play
and see that once I lived here
and loved this time and place
