I spent most of the day just outside the entry to the site; I had what I call Atahualpa's Revenge. There are no toilets within the World heritage site. In the afternoon, I got a bit of respite and saw some of the area, but I'd guess I saw the inside of a loo cubicle for at least 3 hours, and a lot of the rest of the time, I was outside, not feeling safe at all. What I did see was impressive, however.

You must have been pretty annoyed with the situation. Yet you still got to see Machu Picchu, AND you still managed to get some great shots! So not all was lost I guess :-)
