Linh Ung Pagoda

At the beginning of the Son Tra Peninsula, outside Da Nang, central Vietnam, there is a massive new statue. She is the Mother Goddess of Mercy, pouring out her signature balm from the vial she holds. This version stands about 67 metres tall. At night she shines like a beacon. We got there on bicycle, which is a hottish slog, but well worth it. Some of the slopes on the way home are glorious, if somewhat hair-raising if you think about punctures. We saw the Mother Goddess in a lot of places, often those with Chinese backgrounds, although I don't know if that is a correct observation. I believe she is the protector of sailors, which sounds about right.
