Smudge

Hobart, Tasmania

Smudge is currently our sole surviving cat. He was a stray, one of a litter born in a cupboard on the front porch on an atypical ly cold and wintry day, Jan 7, 2007. That makes him now 7 years old. Mother was a short-haired white cat. His two siblings had gorgeous long white fur. He has blue eyes. His brother had blue eyes and his sister had green. He is called Smudge because his tail has a smudgy, dirty patch and he was distinguishable from his siblings a few weeks after birth by a little off-white patch on the head. That's no longer visible. We don't know who papa-puss is, but it may have been Raspberry, one of our two long-haired, black-brown-haired cats, which, at the time I acknowledged and fed, but irresponsibly, hadn't had neutered. Liquorice had been 'done', but I was still half pretending that Raspberry was a temporary ring-in, even after 4 years. I got nagged into being responsible after this. Anyway, Raspberry used to drool when picked up and cuddled. So does Smudge. Is that enough to suggest parentage? Maybe not, but Mama Cat was followed assiduously by Raspberry after she lost her first litter. Smudge is the most cuddlesome cat (after Raspberry) that i can imagine. Raspberry was so friendly that he used to come and sit on my feet in the garden (once he was tamed that is, and that's another story).
