Piece of Bull-kelp dried on the rocks

Bruny Island, Southern Tasmania

Bull kelp - when fresh is a khaki-green colour, It has massive strands of thick rubbery stalks which attach to rocks under water. They can be thick enough to wrap both hands around the stem. Stroms dislodge them and wash them up. When dried, they look black in colour.
