Chedi dating back hundreds of years. Originally, these chedis were covered in a protective plaster layer. Over time this has worn to show the brickwork base, except in the more protected parts of the structure. The niche here, houses a black buddha figure. There are four niches. As with most of the older chedis, plants are colonising and pulling the brickwork apart. I haven't seen many rock-climbing monks (and I find it hard to envisage the monks robes and footwear facilitating the feat of scaling this sort of crumbling cliff), so the task of keeping shrubbery like this at bay, would be a difficult one. I'm not sure how they approach the task.
