O.K., corny title. We saw a boat in the water, just at the water's edge -and I took the stranded cow photo. We walked further along the beach, and looked back on hearing a heavy rattling and clunking behind us. A caterpillar was shunting its way awkwardly down the slope of the sand, and we couldn't figure out what on earth it was doing. The boys playing soccer halted, and there were all sorts of onlookers. Then we saw the quarry was the 'cow' (the boat out in the water). The process after that was enthralling. Ron had the Canon with the telephoto lens; I had the Lumix and we kept getting in each other's way as we followed the process. The caterpillar was roped onto the boat, lifted it up, swung round onto the sand, while the boat swooped back and forth a little. There was clearly the threat that the boat might smash into the side of the machine, with danger to both boat and caterpillar, so she was deposited on the sand, some rearranging of roping was done, then the process continued. The boat's destination was high above high-water mark, near the road, whether for reparations or simply for retirement, I don't know. There are some boats already there, obviously in their graveyard, and some have been burnt. Others look like they may be used again.
